2/18/2015 (T-19) Accounting and HR
Mostly general discovery about AP, AR, Cost Accounting, GL Transactions. How much time can I spend on the details? I haven't seen much difference in the way many systems handle this: Debits, credits, assets, liabilities,zzzz... Everything was very similar to the way we currently handle transactions. The new system uses some different terminology to define integration. There was not much alteration, customization or setup changes required.
There was some concern about having the same vendor at multiple locations. We all have different accounts with the vendors, different pricing and sometimes different remittance information. Similar concerns were waged concerning customers. We were assured there should be no issues with this as our other companies come online.
HR was a little more interesting. We are currently using an average wage and overhead for employees time in WIP. We will be switching to actual wages and a different overhead calculation. Doesn't sound much like an HR function, but they will be responsible for maintaining wages in the new ERP software, as well as in the Payroll system. The new system has a loosely defined HR module. HR will be responsible for maintaining shifts in the new system. Our shifts aren't clearly defined, but time rounding and incidents will be created based on these shifts. It is a little confusing trying to tie an employee to a shift that potentially changes daily - based on production requirements. There are a couple of hundred employees in our facility and a couple thousand through the organization.
On top of HR trying to maintain shifts, wages, points, approvals...they are also going to be responsible for maintaining employee's work centers and supervisors. Our employees often change production lines, supervisors and work centers. Some float around like pollen in the summer.
One positive - I have been requesting that our engineers post the time they spend designing products, to the jobs they are working on. The competitor doesn't do that, so the request was rejected. In the new system, they are finally going to agree with my request to begin tracking design time, since it will be tied to payroll.
